heel spur

The most common lower heel spur is a painful bony outgrowth on the heel bone. Increased stress triggers a stimulus in the tendon fibers, which causes new bone to form in the heel bone. The new pressure load can lead to inflammation of the surrounding tissue. Heel spurs are favored by obesity, poor footwear, permanent overload and foot malpositions. A punctual stabbing pain on the underside of the heel is described, which can extend to the lower leg.
