Calcaneal bursitis

Calcaneal bursitis is a painful inflammation of the bursae at the heel bone. A distinction is made between inflammation beneath the heel (inferior), near the plantar fascia, and inflammation at the back of the heel near the Achilles tendon (retrocalcaneal). Typical symptoms include tenderness to pressure, swelling, and pain when taking the first steps after resting.
