Lipedema is a chronic, painful disorder of fat distribution that affects almost exclusively women. It leads to a symmetrical accumulation of fatty tissue on the legs, hips, and often the arms, while the hands and feet remain unaffected. Typical symptoms include severe tenderness to pressure, bruising, and a sensation of heaviness that do not disappear with diet or exercise.
