ligament rupture

A ligament rupture (torn ligament) is the partial or complete tearing of the fibrous structures of a joint ligament, usually caused by suddenly twisting a joint or by a fall. Commonly affected areas include the upper ankle, the knee (cruciate ligament), or the hand. Typical signs include immediate pain, bruising, and significant swelling.
