metatarsal head
The metatarsal heads (*caput ossis metatarsalis*) are the rounded, forward ends of the five metatarsal bones. Located on the sole of the foot just before the toes begin, they -together with the metatarsophalangeal joints - form the ball of the foot, which bears a significant portion of the body's weight during walking and standing.
